Merzouga is a desert town on the edge of the Dunes in the Moroccan sahara desert.

The largest dunes in this part of Morocco, reachable from Fes and Marrakech is Erg Chebbi.

Erg chebbi and Merzouga are included destinations in both the 3 day 2 night Morocco desert tours and the 4 day 3 night Morocco desert tours.

Once the tour reaches Merzouga, a Camel trek is taken into the Dunes, usually at Sunset, so you can enjoy the Desert sun on your Camel, riding through the dunes and experience the silence and the vastness of the Desert atmosphere.

Effectively, this means that Skype and other VOIP services will either not perform or will perform badly with constant disconnects.

It is believed that the move has been brought in to protect the profits of the sole telecommunications company in Morocco - Maroc telecom - which owns the infrastructure.

But Morocco is not alone in their move.

Morocco joins a rather long list of countries who are known to block Skype and other VOIP services:

Belize, Brazil, Caribbean countries, China, Egypt, Iran, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, South Korea, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, Vietnam and Yemen are all said to block services and / or block web content.

Why does Morocco Block Skype?

Morocco is said to be blocking Skype and other VOIP services to protect the interests of it's telecom company Maroc Telecom.

The chance to fly Morocco to Tunisia recently increased with Tunisair, the national airline of Tunisia increasing it's flight schedule.

Tunisair now flies daily from Casablanca to Tunis.

Additionally, they have added extra flights from Casablanca to Tunis on a Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

This brings the total amount of flights from Tunisair from and to Morocco to 10 flights per week.

All flights depart from Tunis, fly to Casablanca and then return to Tunis on the same day.

This could be a great opportunity to combine your Morocco adventures with a trip to Tunisia and even Libya, as Tunisair now also flies from Tunis to Benghazi Libya 4 times per week.

For those who wish to travel further,Tunisair also fly from Tunis to Istanbul daily.

We recently received a question from a reader of the Morocco travel blog, who was kind enough to take the time to ask a great question to us and we are happy to try to help the reader with his question.

The reader tells us that he spend 17 months in Morocco during World War 2 and that he had some knowledge of The Tea house at Casablanca Sultans Palace.

The reader believes that the Tea house must have fallen into disrepair and tells us that the building was beautiful with lots of Blue and white Ceramic tiles and dark carved woodwork.

The reader also kindly provided some details of some photos which had been taken by an American serviceman who also served in Morocco during World War 2.

The reader also states that it is the place where the Moroccan sultan entertained President Roosevelt during the Casablanca Conference which
took place in January 1943.

The Casablanca Tea House at The Sultans Casablanca Palace Morocco

If anyone has any knowledge of whether this building is still in existance, or indeed, what happened to it, then

we would love to hear from you so that we can provide our enquirer with some more details. Of course....recent photos would be an absolute delight for all of us!

In 2010, a Moroccan film maker released a movie called "The Mosque".

Shot entirely in Zagora, Morocco, the movie, is a great watch to inspire the anticipation of your Morocco desert tour from Marrakech!

The movie has a great storyline, where a local man agrees to have a fake Mosque built on his land for the purpose of a film set.

After the film shooting is finished, the man expects to have his land returned in the same condition in which he provided it.

However, the locals refuse to allow the land owner to demolish the fake Mosque, leading to his impending financial ruin.

What decision does the man make? does he demolish the fake mosque and risk being punished for this when he dies?

You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

In the meantime, Zagora has a real mosque:
